Introducing Fr. Paul Jussen
My Dear Brothers and Sisters,
By God’s will and providence I have been appointed by Bishop Glen John Provost of the Diocese of Lake Charles, to be the pastor and chaplain at Our Lady of Good Counsel. I am looking forward to serving the McNeese community and Our Lady of Good Counsel in this role.
I am originally from San Jose, California. My parents however, emigrated from the Netherlands. I grew up in a faithful home and the thought of priesthood entered my mind at a very young age. Much like many young people today, I found an excuse not to put my faith life first. I strayed away from the faith and had a reconversion at the age of 23.
As my faith was rekindled, I got involved in many different ministries at my home parish, but eventually spent a significant amount of time serving in high school youth ministry. I helped guide youth group nights, retreats, pilgrimages, and conferences. The seed of priesthood grew once again. I discerned with the Discalced Carmelites and my home Diocese. At one of our retreats I ran into a Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette priest who invited me to discern with them.
I entered in 2010 and began my religious formation. I made my final vows in 2015 and was ordained a La Salette priest on June 17th 2017 in Friendswood, TX. My first assignment was Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Sulphur, LA. I served as an associate pastor and chaplain for Our Lady’s School for the past 3 years. Currently, I am in the process of being incardinated to the Diocese of Lake Charles to make this Diocese my permanent home.
My hobbies include photography, sports, and bowling. I love Carmelite spirituality and my favorite scripture verse is Matthew 16:24, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.”
I look forward to working in collaboration with the Holy Spirit and our campus ministry program to form lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. Thank you for your loving support of campus ministry at McNeese State and know of my prayers for you and your families. Let us always walk in the light of the Lord!
